iASPIRE 2011- Career Expo at H K CAMPUS

iASPIRE 2011 – a Career Counselling Exposition for the aspiring management students was held at the H K CAMPUS on 11th June 2011. iASPIRE 2011 has been organised by selected management students of H.K. Institute of Management Studies & Research (HKIMSR), Mumbai. It was an initiative to create a forum where practicing professionals could help career aspirants know how to build a successful career by pursuing an MBA which offers RIGHT kind of curriculum and industry orientations.

The students invited eminent speakers from the corporate world to share insights on the pedigree of MBAs required in the industry today. The session enabled MBA aspirants to learn the benefits of pursuing a career in MBA, the job opportunities for SMART MBAs and the advantages of soft skills for a successful career as an MBA.

The galaxy of speakers was formed by Mr. Ajeet Khurana, Founder Director, Corpus Collusum Learning; Mr. R. Devarajan, Director-HR, Globeop Financial Services; Mr. KMG Stephen, Manager-HR, Nokia Siemens Networks and Mrs. Geetha Krishnan, an independent behavioural and soft skills trainer and Prof. Krishna C. Pandey, Director of the institution.

Prof. Tamojit G. Roy, marketing faculty and Head of the PGDM Programme introduced the speakers and the purpose of the forum. The theme of the expo was to let the MBA aspirants know the power of SMART MBA that would secure their future by providing clarifications to pertinent issues in perspective to a RIGHT Career decision.

Prof. Krishna C. Pandey, the Director of the Institution welcomed the speakers, aspiring MBAs and their parents. He emphasised upon how the curriculum which is a blend of academic and non-academic activities could help in developing industry ready MBAs. He further explained how at HKIMSR, the academic learning is amalgamated with practical learning through non-academic activities like Conferences, Conclaves, Seminars, Orientation Programme, Industry Lectures and now SOFT SKILLS LAB at HKIMSR.

The lead speaker for the day was Mr. Ajeet Khurana, who is also an acclaimed author of various CAT and GMAT books published by Mc Graw Hill Education and an editor of business majors at about.com, other than being the Founder Director of Corpus Collusum Learning. The focus of his session was on MBA as the right career option or not and how MBA learning is different from other career oriented programmes. He emphasised upon the criticality of lifelong learning for surviving in the corporate world for successful managers. It was an intellectually stimulating session, where Mr. Khurana shared his experiences while completing MBA from University of Texas (USA). The audience was mesmerized with his anecdotes and knowledge shared during the session.

The next speaker for the event was Mr. KMG Stephen, Manager HR at Nokia Siemens Networks. Mr. Stephen introduced the continuous improvement component called 360 degrees Self-Assessment which is must for any corporate aspirant to diligently follow – a spin-off from management technique where one should continuously seek feedback from family, friends, colleagues who are directly or indirectly associated with the environment. This continuous improvement is what industry employers prefer and hire for corporate positions.

The third speaker for the day was Mr. R. Devarajan, Director-HR, Globeops Financial Services; his emphasis was on creating a synergy among personal abilities, professional aspirations and the organization, which determines the success of an individual as a manager. He emphasised on how and on what criteria the industry recruits and grooms potential managers. He also provided an insight on what kind of curriculum should be developed by institutions to meet the employability needs of the organisations today.

The final speaker of the day was Mrs. Geetha Krishnan, a behavioral and soft-skills facilitator with over nine years of experience in training on attitudinal and behavioral aspects. She proved through simulations and demonstrations, how important soft skills could be for the success of any individual in the corporate world. She concluded with valuable inputs on how soft skills could be used by the manager for survival in the fiercely competitive global business arena.

The session concluded with lead speaker summarising the thoughts shared with the students. Ajeet Khurana stressed upon the critical need of initiative and enthusiasm as first logical steps towards an accomplished management career. As every good things come to an end so did the career expo with a brief vote of thanks by Prof C.R. Kumar, Senior marketing faculty with a token of appreciation and gratitude to the speakers for sharing an intellectually stimulating session.

The seminar was followed by the launch of SOFT SKILLS LAB in HK CAMPUS, a pioneering approach by our institute to develop the personality of our management students. The Lab has been created in strategic alliance with Mindshare Consultants – a leading corporate training company in Mumbai

iASPIRE 2011 was conceived and successfully organised by selected students from HKIMSR completing their internship at 7ty7 Entertainment Private Ltd., under the guidance of Prof. Tamojit G. Roy, Marketing Faculty and Programme Head (PGDM).
